Kyoto University Hokkaido Alumni Meeting (July 12, 2013)

Kyoto University Hokkaido Alumni held a meeting in Sapporo with forty members in attendance.

The alumni association is comprised of Kyoto University graduates who are originally from Hokkaido, who currently work for a company in Hokkaido, or who have been assigned to work in Hokkaido by a company elsewhere in Japan. It promotes communication among members through annual meetings, golf competitions, and other events.

As in the year before, the meeting was held with support from North Pacific Bank at a seminar hall on the fourth floor of the bank's building. With Secretary-General Masahiro Sawada (1979 graduate from the Faculty of Law) serving as the master of ceremonies, Chairman Ryuzo Yokouchi (1967 graduate from the Faculty of Law) gave an opening speech. Later, Executive Vice-President Hidetoshi Kotera briefed participants on the latest news regarding Kyoto University, and Vice-Chairman Osamu Sakai (1979 graduate from the Faculty of Engineering) gave a lecture on "The Effects of Solar and Wind Power Generation on the Power System and the Challenges." Participants then made their way to Sapporo Sumire Hotel for a social gathering.

The social gathering began with an opening speech by Advisor Yukio Koizumi (1954 graduate, Faculty of Law). While the beautiful alumni flag aroused the party's spirit, the unexpected participation of Minister Akihiro Ohta (1968 graduate, Faculty of Engineering) from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism enlivened the festive mood even more.

The meeting ended on a cheerful note as participants all sang Biwako Shuko no Uta.
