Annual May Tour of Kyoto University Osaka Alumni Club (May 10, 2012)

The annual May tour of the Kyoto University Osaka Alumni Club was held at the Kyoto University Research Reactor Institute (KURRI). The Kyoto University Osaka Alumni Club is comprised of graduates from Kyoto University's faculties and graduate schools residing in the Kansai area. The annual May tour features a tour of the university's research facilities and lectures by current faculty staff members, providing an opportunity for exposure to cutting-edge, advanced studies while promoting interaction among alumni members.

This year's annual May tour was attended by seventy-six members. After greetings by Chairman Masahiro Suzuki (1955 graduate from the Faculty of Law), Director Hirotake Moriyama of KURRI gave a welcome speech. Professor Ken Nakajima then presented a lecture titled "An Overview of the Kyoto University Research Reactor (KUR)" and Professor Koji Ono spoke about "Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) for Cancers." Later, participants in seven groups toured KUR, the Fixed Field Alternating Gradient (FFAG) accelerator and the BNCT accelerator to deepen their understanding of nuclear facilities.

After the tour, a social gathering was held at Best Western Hotel Kansai Airport. To start off the party, Vice-Chair Hirotaka Ieki (1951 graduate from the Faculty of Law) gave the opening address and Director Moriyama proposed a toast. Interested participants, until the end of the party, were able to talk further about KUR, BNCT, and the institute's research facilities.
