Kyoto University Hokkaido Alumni Meeting (July 1, 2011)

Kyoto University Hokkaido Alumni held a meeting in Sapporo with forty-seven members in attendance.

The alumni association is comprised of Kyoto University graduates who are originally from Hokkaido or are currently working for a company in Hokkaido, or who have been assigned to work in Hokkaido by a company elsewhere in Japan. It promotes communication among members through annual meetings, golf competitions, and other events.

As in the year before, the meeting was held with support from North Pacific Bank at a seminar hall on the fourth floor of the bank's building. After a briefing on current university-related issues by Professor Tetsuji Atsuji from the Graduate School of Human and Environmental Studies (assistant to the executive vice-president), a lecture was presented, entitled "Talks about Kanji." Participants then made their way to Sapporo Sumire Hotel for a social gathering.

The social gathering began with an opening speech by Chairman Ryuzo Yokouchi (1967 Faculty of Law graduate) and a toast by former Chairman Yukio Koizumi (1954 Faculty of Law graduate). Secretary General Masahiro Sawada (1979 Faculty of Law graduate) then reported on the alumni association's women's branch, founded in February of this year with six members who participated in the meeting.

The meeting closed in a mood even more cheerful than usual, with closing remarks by Mr. Hajime Tanaka (1946 Faculty of Science graduate)--the eldest member present--and everyone singing Biwako Shuko no Uta.
