Kyoto University Malaysian Alumni Come Together to Found an Association (June 30, 2011)

Malaysians who studied at Kyoto University gathered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to discuss preparations for the founding of an association of Kyoto University Malaysian alumni. The meeting was attended by twenty people, including former Kyoto University students gathered not only from within and around Kuala Lumpur but from all parts of the country, as well as a delegation of university staff members.

The meeting began with a speech by Executive Vice-President Yuzo Ohnishi, after which participants exchanged views in a friendly atmosphere. At the end of the meeting, Professor Mohd Hamdi bin Abd Shukor from the University of Malaya (dean of the Faculty of Engineering), who hosted the meeting, revealed his commitment to starting up an alumni association, stating that since many former Kyoto University students of a broad age bracket live in Malaysia, expectations were high for the start-up of an alumni association. He also expressed his hopes for strengthening their networks in order to build the organization. Young participants also put forth good proposals, such as the use of social networking services for strengthening ties, indicating that the prospects are good for the future development of the alumni association.
