The 1961 graduates of the Faculty of Economics held an alumni meeting commemorating their 50th graduation anniversary at the Clock Tower Centennial Hall, drawing a total of eighty-nine graduates from four classes (E1-E4).

Before opening the meeting, participants dedicated a moment of silence to express their condolences for twenty-nine graduates who have passed away as well as for victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Then, following an opening speech by Chair Hiroshige Nishizawa (E2) of the Faculty of Economics Alumni Association, eight members of the steering committee (Mr. Osamu Katayama and Mr. Masanobu Shioji from E1, Mr. Yuzuru Inoue and Mr. Hiromu Shiga from E2, Mr. Shinji Ikuno and Mr. Ryuichi Nishio from E3, and Mr. Sadahiko Otani and Mr. Masahiro Kobayashi from E4) were introduced and a speech was given by Dean Hideo Tanaka of the Faculty of Economics (director general of the alumni association).

There was also a performance by the Alma Mater Choir, a choral group made up of Kyoto University graduates, led by Mr. Toshio Sakai (E2). After the performance, participants all together sang Kurenai Moyuru and Biwako Shuko no Uta, which culminated in a festive mood. At the closing of the meeting, a speech was given by Mr. Kozo Kikuchi (former dean of the Faculty of Economics, E2), followed by three "banzai" cheers from participants. After the meeting, a group photograph for each class was taken before going home.
