President Hiroshi Matsumoto Attends Washington, D.C. Kyodai-kai Meeting (May 19, 2011)

President Hiroshi Matsumoto attended a Kyodai-kai meeting held in Washington, D.C., USA and met with participants. The Washington, D.C. Kyodai-kai is an alumni association of Kyoto University graduates residing in Washington, D.C. About forty members participated in the meeting.

The meeting opened with greetings by Chairman Takashi Muragaki (1963 graduate of the Faculty of Economics) and Vice-Chair Sachiko Kuno (1977 graduate of the Faculty of Engineering). After participants from a variety of backgrounds introduced themselves, President Matsumoto made a speech in which he mentioned a hypothesis regarding the relationship between Japanese and Sanskrit, and participants deepened their friendships in a relaxed atmosphere. The latter part of the meeting featured a classical guitar performance by Mr. Soichi Muraji, a guitarist residing in the United States, which received a big applause from the participants.

At the meeting, donations for victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake were also collected from participants and entrusted with the university.
