President Hiroshi Matsumoto Attends NY Rakuyu-kai General Meeting (May 16, 2011)

President Hiroshi Matsumoto attended the general meeting of the New York Rakuyu-kai held in New York, USA and met with participants. The NY Rakuyu-kai is an alumni association of Kyoto University graduates residing in and around New York. The general meeting was attended by about thirty members.

The general meeting opened with a speech by President Yuji Kaneko (1978 graduate of the Faculty of Engineering), followed by speeches from President Hiroshi Matsumoto and Executive Vice-President Yuzo Onishi and a toast by Mr. Hiromichi Morimoto (president and chief executive officer of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc.; 1977 graduate of the Faculty of Economics). Participants then enjoyed conversations and a lively exchange in a very friendly atmosphere. Among the many participants attending the event was Mr. Tetsushi Wakita (director general at the NHK General Bureau for America; 1979 graduate of the Faculty of Law), who recalled his student life with plenty of humor and expressed his wishes for the university to encourage more graduates to be involved in alumni activities, citing the case of American universities that greatly value their connections with graduates.

At the closing of the general meeting, a commemorative item was presented by Rakuyu-kai to the university. At the general meeting, donations for the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake were also collected from participants and entrusted with the university delegation.
