Kyoto University Alumni Association in Vietnam establishment meeting held

Kyoto University Alumni Association in Vietnam establishment meeting held

September 16, 2010

On September 16, the day before the opening ceremony of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi – Kyoto University Collaboration Office established as the overseas site of the Global 30 International Program of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, establishment meeting of joint Kyoto University alumni association in Vietnam was held in Hanoi, Vietnam, attended by Japanese and Vietnamese Kyoto University alumni residing in Vietnam.

In Vietnam, there currently is a Japanese alumni association called Hanoi Yoshida-kai, but a Vietnamese alumni association was newly established, and more than 80 people attended this event.

During the establishment meeting, greetings were given by President Hiroshi Matsumoto, Executive Vice-President Yuzo Onishi, Chairman Kazuo Onishi of Hanoi Yoshida-kai, and Chairman Ta Thanh Van of the Vietnamese alumni association. Alumni association introduction and future activity plans were presented by both Hanoi Yoshida-kai and the Vietnamese association, and exchanges among Japanese and Vietnamese alumni were seen in the friendly atmosphere.

After Thailand, Vietnam is the second overseas region where there are two Kyoto alumni associations, one for Japanese and one for Vietnamese. It is our hope to see these two associations be active individually and cooperatively.
