of Hanoi Yoshida-Kai

A social gathering for Vietnamese former exchange students was held in Hanoi, Vietnam on August 12. There were 13 participants, including Kyoto University faculty members and graduate students.

Some of the Vietnamese former exchange students had never met each other, and the gathering was a friendly one with self-introductions and reports of recent news. Also, since Vietnam National University, Hanoi - Kyoto University Collaboration Office will open in September, Kyoto University faculty members suggested a Vietnamese alumni association, and its establishment was decided. Professor Ta Thanh Van of Hanoi Medical University will be chairing the association.

On the 11th, Hanoi Yoshida-kai, a Japanese alumni association, was held in Hanoi as well, and was attended by 13 participants, including Kyoto University faculty members.

Hanoi Yoshida-kai has held regular social gatherings for about three years, facilitating information exchange and friendship among its members. On this gathering, it was suggested by the Kyoto University faculty members to hold a joint alumni gathering with the establishment of a Vietnamese alumni association, and the idea was agreed to unanimously.

Mr. Kazuo Onishi (graduated from the Faculty of Engineering in 1966 and from the Graduate School of Engineering in 1988) has been appointed as the chair of Hanoi Yoshida-kai, and enrollment to the Kyoto University Alumni network has been confirmed.

A joint alumni meeting by Vietnamese former exchange students and Japanese alumni of Kyoto University is to be held on September 16 in Hanoi.
