Kyoto University Washington D.C. Alumni association established

A social gathering for Kyoto University alumni residing in Washington D.C. was held at the home of Ms. Sachiko Kuno (Faculty of Engineering, graduated 1977) in Washington D.C., marking the establishment of the Kyoto University Washington D.C. Alumni association.

In Washington D.C., graduates of Kyoto University residing in the area had been meeting for several years, and for about two years, social gatherings have been held at the home of Ms. Kuno. This has been promoting friendship among graduates and their families, and facilitating communication among Kyoto University alumni in the Washington D.C. area.

This meeting was participated in by approximately 30 people, including families of the graduates. Among the approximate 30 participants were Executive Vice-President Yuzo Onishi and two other personnel from Kyoto University.

At the beginning of the social gathers, Executive Vice-President Yuzo Onishi reported on the current status of Kyoto University, such as the establishment of the Tokyo Office, Rakuyu Kaikan being renewed, and efforts to implement a roster system of alumni.

The party began with a toast by Ms. Sachiko Kuno, and since there were first-time participants, every one gave a self-introduction. Everyone enjoyed friendly exchanges.

In conclusion of the gathering, the meeting was officially established as an alumni association meeting of Kyoto University, and Chairman Takashi Muragaki (Faculty of Economics, graduated 1963), Vice-Chair Sachiko Kuno, Secretary General Shinichiro Uemiya (Faculty of Engineering, graduated 1975), Deputy Secretary General Toshihiko Katsuda (Faculty of Science, graduated 1986), and Deputy Secretary General Takashi Sugimoto (Faculty of Engineering, graduated 2004) were selected. It was confirmed that the Kyoto University Washington D.C. Alumni association would establish its activities in the future and deepen its relationship with Kyoto University. There are 24 members.
