Regular May tour of Kyoto University Osaka Alumni Club held

May 12, 2010

The regular May tour of the Kyoto University Osaka Alumni Club was held in the International Conference Hall of the Kyoto University Clock Tower Centennial Hall.

The Kyoto University Osaka Alumni Club comprises graduates of Kyoto University faculties and Graduate Schools residing in the Kansai Area, and currently has approximately 300 members. In addition to the annual tours, the Club holds new-year parties and regular meetings on odd-numbered months so as to promote friendly exchanges among members as well as to provide a chance to learn about cutting-edge research from lectures by current Kyoto University faculty members.

This year's regular May tour was attended by 57 members, and following greetings by Chairman Masahiro Suzuki (Faculty of Law, graduated in 1955), Executive Vice-President Yuzo Onishi delivered a speech, representing Kyoto University. Next, Associate Professor Takayuki Shiose of the Kyoto University Museum gave a lecture titled “Why the words of the analog generation do not reach the digital generation,” and took the club on a guided tour through the current exhibition titled “Mysteries of Technology X.”

After the tour, a social gathering was held at the Kyoto University Clock Tower Centennial Hall. The opening address was given by Vice-Chair Junzo Yamauchi (Faculty of Letters, graduated in 1952), and the toast by Executive Vice-President Onishi set the party going. After much friendly socializing, Vice-Chair Hirotaka Ieki (Faculty of Law, graduated 1951) led the traditional three cheers in closing.
