Response to the 2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in the Tohoku Region

We wish to express our deepest sympathy to all those who have been affected by the earthquake and tsunami which struck the Pacific coast of the northeastern region of Japan on March 11.

In the wake of the disaster, we have received a great many messages of support from friends and colleagues overseas, for which we offer our heartfelt thanks.

We are very thankful that there have been no reports of significant earthquakes or any direct damage in the western parts of Japan, including Kyoto.

Kyoto University is doing its utmost to ensure the safety of its students, faculty and staff, including students and researchers from overseas.
