Meeting of the Re-inventing Japan Project (ASEAN Program) (August 19, 2013)

발행일

The first meeting of the Re-inventing Japan Project (ASEAN program) in FY 2013 was held by participating universities at the International Conference Hall in the Clock Tower Centennial Hall.

Prior to the meeting, an intensive lecture--also open to those participating in the meeting--was given at 11:30 a.m. on the same day as part of a program adopted in the Type A-II Category of the CAMPUS Asia Project, which is currently being implemented at Kyoto University's Yoshida Campus.

The purpose of the main meeting, which started at 1:00 p.m., was to facilitate the future development of the programs through an exchange of views on the three programs adopted in the A-II Category of the CAMPUS Asia (Collective Actions for Mobility Programs of University Students in Asia) Project and the fourteen programs adopted in the "Support for the Formation of Collaborative Programs with ASEAN Universities" Project. The meeting also focused on issues involved in program implementation, including how to share good practices in implementing the programs. Participants included representatives from MEXT's Higher Education Bureau, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and the National Institution for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation.

The meeting consisted of two parts. In the first part, after opening speeches by Director-General Junichi Mori from the Organization for the Promotion of International Relations (OPIR) and Mr. Yusuke Shoji from MEXT (Office for International Planning, Higher Education Policy Planning Division, Higher Education Bureau), presentations were given on the cases of Kyoto University's program adopted in FY 2012 and Nagoya University's program adopted in FY 2013.

In the second part that followed, after an overview focusing on a total of ten programs and their related challenges, participants participated in a panel discussion and talked about the challenges and good practices of the adopted programs.

The meeting produced many fruitful results through its discussions, which were just as hot as the day's weather.
