발행일

From 3 December 2018 to 1 February 2019, as part of its "Programme for Special Exchange Students (Winter Term 2018/2019)", the Graduate School of Economics (GSE) enrolled six students from two partner institutions in its "International Graduate Programme for East Asia Sustainable Economic Development Studies (East Asia Programme)". The students were from Thammasat University (Faculty of Economics and Thammasat Institute of Area Studies), Thailand, and Gadjah Mada University (Faculty of Economics and Business), Indonesia. The "Programme for Special Exchange Students" was organized under the Wild & Wise Collaborative Learning Program with support from Kyoto University.

Together with regular "East Asia Programme" students, participants from Thailand and Indonesia attended lectures by KyotoU faculty and invited scholars (Project Professors of the Social Sciences and Humanities Unit in the "Top Global Course" program), gaining a deep understanding of economic development and sustainability.

In addition, the exchange students took part in an information session at Kyoto Makers Garage, where they learned about industry and start-up activity in the city of Kyoto. They also went on a field trip with students taking the "Field Research in Japan" course, offered as part of the "East Asia Programme". This trip was supported by the prefecture of Kyoto and covered Keihanna Open Innovation Center @ KYOTO (KICK), Uji Tea Ceremony Hall "Takumi-no Yakata", and Byodoin Temple.

Through these activities and exchanges with regular GSE students, participants experienced both the educational environment of Kyoto University, and the culture and industry of Kyoto Prefecture. The organizers hope that these experiences will have positive impact on their future studies and careers.
