27 Oct 2017

On 9 September, the Kyoto University Junior Alumni Association (KUJAA) held its 15th general meeting and lecture event at the Bunkyo Gender Equality Center in Tokyo. A total of 33 people (22 men and 11 women) attended, including KUJAA members, who are KU alumni aged 45 or younger, and guests. The event was co-hosted with Kyoto University Alumni and Gakushikai, an association of alumni and former faculty of seven national universities.

At the general meeting, a proposed amendment to the inauguration date for KUJAA chairs was unanimously approved. A chair election was then held in accordance with Articles 9 and 11 of the association's bylaws, unanimously electing Mr Jico Hui (Graduate School of Economics 2006), inaugural and current KUJAA chairman, to serve his second term through 25 November 2021.

Chairman Jico appointed Mr Satoshi Ishikawa (Faculty of Law 2002) as a board member, and Mr Mamoru Yamada, president and CEO of Owl Inc, as an honorary member.  KUJAA now has 530 members in total, including six board members, three honorary members, and five supporting members.

A lecture was delivered by Mr Akira Uno (Faculty of Economy 1966), vice-chairman of the KU Faculty of Economy Alumni, director of KU Alumni Tokyo Branch, and a former chairman and representative director of SMBC Consulting Co Ltd. Under the title, "An ideal financial structure for Japan: Government-initiated financial reform and realignment of local banks", the lecturer passionately discussed the country's finances and the right attitude toward academia.

A group discussion in the participatory "Junior Alumni formula" followed, with participants actively exchanging their views across ages and academic backgrounds on the topics presented by Mr Uno.

The final segment of the gathering was devoted to a quiz session focused on Kyoto. Unique questions, such as "How long is the Philosopher's Path?", livened up the event to the end.
