On 29 November 2018, the KyotoU ASEAN Center hosted a reunion of the University's alumni in Bogor, Indonesia, in collaboration with the Indonesian Association of Kyoto University Alumni (Himpunan Alumni Kyoto University, or HAKU) and former students currently affiliated with Bogor Agricultural University (Institut Pertanian Bogor, or IPB). The event was held in conjunction with the Kyoto University International Symposium on Education and Research in Global Environmental Studies, which took place from 30 November to 2 December at IPB. The ASEAN Center is continuously working to strengthen the region's KyotoU alumni network by providing constant support to local associations.

The meeting began with three welcome speeches, delivered by: Dr Ernan Rustiadi, former KyotoU student and current head of the IPB Center for Regional System Analysis, Planning and Development (CrestPent); Dr Suharman Hamzah, president of HAKU; and Dr Kayo Inaba, Kyoto University's executive vice-president for gender equality, international affairs, and public relations.

More than 110 alumni attended — from not only Bogor and other parts of Indonesia, but also Vietnam, Thailand, and Japan — for the opportunity to catch up with old friends and former advisors, as well as to make new friends.

The meeting closed on a high note with remarks from Professor Yoko Hayami, director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS), wishing the region's alumni network and HAKU continued growth.
