Full Professor / Safety Control of Urban Space


Division of Disaster Management for Safe and Secure Society, a research division of the Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University invites applications for a full professor position.

This is a permanent faculty position with research emphasis on methodologies and technologies as related to safety control of urban space against earthquake disasters. The successful candidate is expected to lead research on risk evaluations, assurance and enhancement of safety, functionality, and amenity of building structures subjected to earthquakes such studies include seismic risk assessment, seismic analysis and design, structural control, seismic retrofits, and preservation of historic structures. He/she also has responsibilities for teaching graduate courses and supervising the research of graduate students in the Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University. The successful applicant will be expected to start on April 1, 2008.

Applicants should prepare the following material: i) curriculum vitae, ii) complete bibliography (peer reviewed papers and other publications), iii) copies of five papers, iv) a brief review of research and contributions (up to two A4 pages), v) a statement of research plans and interests (up to two A4 pages; figures may be added), and vi) recommendation letters or names of two references (include their addresses, fax numbers, and e-mail addresses).
