1. Job description
Primate Research Institute, Kyoto University (KUPRl) is seeking to appoint a suitable candidate to the position of Professor,in the Population Genetics Section, Department of Evolution and Phylogeny. The Population Genetics Section has performed studies on the genetic structure of primate populations, as well as the genetic diversity at intra- and interspecies levels and phylogenetic relationships in primates using molecular population genetic methods. Prior experience with non-human primates is not essential. We desire a person who intensively promotes projects of molecular population genetics and phylogenetic evolution in primates. Adequate knowledge of Japanese is required, as the successful candidate is required to fully participate in faculty meetings and other administrative matters conducted in Japanese, and to lecture graduate students on Evolutionary Genetics in either English or Japanese. Faculty members are also expected to promote the research of primates from a broad perspective, to teach and supervise graduate students and post-doctoral level researchers, and to contribute to the administration of the institute.

2. Application procedure:
Candidates are requested to submit the following set of documents. Two full sets should be sent (copies are acceptable). English is acceptable.

(1) CV with detailed account of academic activity and research grant record
(2) List of academic publications and reprints of each article
(3) List of non-academic/popular publications and reprints of each article
(4) Summary of research that the candidate has conducted (about 1500 words).
(5) Summary of research that the candidate intends to carry out at KUPRI (about 1500 words).

3. Selection procedure and feedback to candidates
A committee will be set up at the Primate Research Institute, Kyoto University (KUPRI) to evaluate all candidates, based on the documents submitted. The complete list of candidates will then be passed to a general assembly of about 35 faculty members, all of whom will participate in a vote to select a candidate for the post. No further information will be available to candidates at any stage of the selection process. Each candidate will be informed of the final decision pertaining to him/herself only. KUPRI is composed of the following four departments consisting of ten sections, two attached centers, and a project program: Department of Evolution and Phylogeny (includes Morphology Section, Population Genetics Section, and Systematics and Phylogeny Section), Department of Ecology and Social Behavior (includes Ecology Section and Social Behavior Section), Department of Behavioral and Brain Sciences (includes Language and Intelligence Section, Cognition and Learning Section, and Brain Research Section), Department of Cellular and Molecular Biology (includes Cellular Biology Section and Molecular Biology Section).
