1. Job description:
Primate Research Institute, Kyoto University (KUPRI) is seeking to appoint a suitable candidate to the position of professor in the Systematics and Phylogeny Section. The members of the section conduct research on primate evolution (including humans) using research methods in paleontology, archaeozoology, palaeoanthropology, and biogeography. Candidates should have extensive experience and a distinguished research record. Fluency in Japanese is required, as the successful candidate will be expected to participate in faculty meetings and other administrative matters conducted in Japanese and to lecture graduate students in either English and/or Japanese. The successful candidate will be expected to promote the study of primates from a broad perspective, to teach and supervise graduate students and post-doctoral researchers, and to contribute to the administration of the institute.

2. Application procedure:
Candidates are requested to submit the following set of documents. Two full sets should be sent (copies are acceptable).
(1) CV with detailed account of academic activity and research grant record
(2) List of academic publications and reprints (one per set for each article)
(3) List of non-academic/popular publications and reprints (one per set for each article)
(4) Summary of research that the candidate has conducted (about 1000 words).
(5) Summary of research that the candidate intends to carry out at KUPRI (about 1000 words).

3. Selection procedure and feedback to candidates
A committee will be set up at KUPRI to evaluate all candidates, based on the documents submitted. The complete list of candidates will then be passed on to a general assembly of about 40 faculty members, all of whom will participate in a vote to select one candidate for the post. No further information will be available to candidates at any stage of the selection process. Each candidate will be informed of the final decision pertaining to him/herself only. KUPRI consists of the following four major departments: Department of Evolution and Phylogeny (Morphology Section, Population Genetics Section, Systematics and Phylogeny Section), Department of Ecology and Social Behavior (Ecology Section, Social Behavior Section), Department of Behavioral and Brain Sciences (Language and Intelligence Section, Cognition and Learning Section, Brain Research Section), Department of Cellular and Molecular Biology (Cellular Biology Section, Molecular Biology Section).
