1. Job description:
Primate Research Institute, Kyoto University (KUPRI) is seeking to
appoint a suitable candidate to the position of professor in the field
of ecology and social behavior. At the Primate Research Institute,
faculty involved in this field of research belong to the Ecology Section,
Social Behavior Section and the Field Research Center. This Research
is carried out on the ecology, social behavior and conservation of
primates in the wild, using methodologies from ethology, ecology and
other related disciplines. Fluency in Japanese is required, as the
successful candidate will be expected to fully participate in faculty
meetings and other administrative matters conducted in Japanese and
to lecture graduate students in either English and/or Japanese. The
successful candidate will be expected to promote the study of primates
from a broad perspective, to help in teaching and supervision of graduate
students and post-docs, and to contribute to the administration of
the institute.

3. Selection procedure and feedback to candidates
A committee will be set up at KUPRI to evaluate all candidates, based
on the documents submitted. The complete list of candidates will then
be passed on to a general assembly of about 40 faculty members, all
of whom will participate in a vote to select one candidate for the
post. No further information will be available to candidates at any
stage of the selection process. Each candidate will be informed of
the final decision pertaining to him/herself only.
Primate Research Institute, Kyoto University (KUPRI) consists of the

(Morphology Section, Population Genetics Section, Systematics and
Phylogeny Section), Department of Ecology and Social Behavior (Ecology
