1. Job description
Primate Research Institute, Kyoto University (KUPRI) is seeking to appoint
a suitable candidate for the positions of (a) Associate Professor and
(b) Assistant Professor in the above research program, to promote comparative
investigation between humans and non-human primates in the areas of
infantile cognitive development, childbearing, and family formation.
Both positions, funded by Benesse Co., are fixed term appointments (3
years with a possible 2 –year extension contingent upon continuation
of funding). While the successful candidate for the position of Associate
Professor will be expected to perform his/her main research on infantile
cognitive development in humans, the perspective Assistant Professor
will be expected to conduct his/her research mainly on equivalent topics
in apes. Being exempt from any administrative duties of the institute,
both candidates are expected to produce substantial research results
and to demonstrate them to the general public via appropriate means,
within the given term.
2. Application procedure:
Candidates are requested to submit the following set of documents in
duplicate sets (copies acceptable).
1. CV with detailed account of academic activity and research grant
record.
2. List of academic publications and reprints (one per set for each
article).
3. List of non-academic/popular publications and reprints (one per set
for each article).
4. Summary of research conducted (about 400 words).
5. Summary of research plan to be conducted at KUPRI (about 400 words).

3. Selection procedure and feedback to candidates
A committee will be set up at KUPRI to evaluate all candidates, based
on the documents submitted. The complete list of candidates will then
be passed on to a general assembly of about 40 faculty members, all
of whom will participate in a vote to select one candidate for each
post. No further information will be available to candidates at any
stage of the selection process. Each candidate will be informed of the
final decision pertaining to him/herself only.
The research program “Comparative Study of Cognitive Development”
will be run jointly by the following two sections: Section of Cognition
and Learning and Section of Language and Intelligence. Detailed information
