Professor Junichi Mori Attends the Eco Forum Global Annual Conference 2014 in Guiyang, China (11–12 July 2014)

Professor Junichi Mori, director-general of the Organization for the Promotion of International Relations (OPIR), attended the Eco Forum Global Annual Conference 2014 in Guiyang in the Gizhou Province of China. The Eco Forum in Guiyang is organized annually by the Chinese government to discuss environmental issues. This year's Eco Forum was attended by delegates from thirteen leading institutions from around the world (see below for full details).

At the forum, Prof. Mori introduced Kyoto University's collaborative research activities with Tsinghua University in Shenzhen and Kunming University of Science and Technology, as well as the Cross Culture Communication between Peking University and Kyoto University (CCC PUKU) student exchange initiative. He also discussed the environmental levy system implemented as part of the green campus initiative at Kyoto University. Also during the forum, the establishment of the Green Alliance of Universities for a Sustainable Future (tentative name) was proposed by Peking University. Kyoto University has expressed its interest in joining in the alliance.
A friendly atmosphere prevailed at the dinner party that was held at Guizhou University on the last day of the forum, providing an opportunity for the participants to deepen their partnerships. President Zheng Qiang of Guizhou University, the forum's venue, is a Kyoto University alumnus. It is anticipated that the participation of Kyoto University in the Eco Forum will promote an expansion of research and education collaboration concerning environmental issues in China and other countries.
