Student Lounge "KI-ZU-NA" May Event 'Surigata Yuzen Dye Experience'
May 17, 2010
As May's event, we had 'Surigata Yuzen Dye Experience'. Yuzen is a traditional Japanese dyeing technique. This time, participants went to Miyakomesse Kyoto International Exhibition Hall to experience Surigata Yuzen, which is a technique of dyeing patterns on the surface of a chosen item, by placing templates and applying colorants on the templates with special brushes. This time, participants dyed patterns on to a paper fan. For all participants, this was the first time to experience Surigata Yuzen and therefore adjusting the amount of colorant seemed to be difficult at the beginning. However, little by little participants were getting the knack of it, and finally made very unique and wonderful fans. This event was a great chance to interact with other participants while experiencing Japanese culture.
