JSPS-VCC Coordinators' Meeting held on 20th January 2010 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

In accordance to JSPS-VCC Core University Program which was carried out by the Graduate School of Engineering, its last Coordinators' Meeting was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 20th January 2010, and was attended by the Dean of Graduate School of Engineering, Prof. Koichiro Oshima, Coordinator, Prof. Yuzuru Matsuoka, Prof. Yoshihisa Shimizu, Prof. Shigeo Fujii from Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies, Program Leader Dr. Masashi Osa, and three other administrative staff from the Kyoto University, while the participants from the University of Malaya were represented by the Coordinator of JSPS-VCC Core University Program, Deputy Vice Chancellor Dato' Dr Mohd Jamil Bin Maah, Program Leader Prof. Nik Meriam Nik Sulaiman, Deputy Registrar, Ms. Nor Zaherah Mohd Yusof and Senior Secretary Ms. Jamiah Mohamad. This meeting was regarded as the last Coordinators' Meeting of the Program since the program will officially end up in March 2010.

In the inauguration of the meeting, Prof. Oshima made the remarks to express his gratitude for the most fulfilled cooperation set by the Malaysian members for this program. In return, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Malaya, Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd Jamil Maah expressed the appreciation to Japanese researchers for their continuous support and welcomed them for their visit to Malaysia. All participants from both countries withheld an active discussion which was more focused on the exchange performance in fiscal year 2009 and its alternative program.

Since its inception, Kyoto University and University of Malaya have kept up a good and continuous relationship for more than 25 years, and have seriously embarked on venturing research activities. Such arrangements have also enabled these two institutions to build up their reputations and to be more competitive in all their efforts wherever opportunity is available, and thus enable them to be strong, resilient, continuously growing institutions for years to come. In conclusion, both universities have agreed to maintain and strengthen their relationship based on our successful history.
