President Hiroshi Matsumoto Attends 13th APRU Annual Presidents Meeting

President Hiroshi Matsumoto attended the 13th Annual Presidents Meeting of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU). Held at the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, U.S., the Meeting was also attended by Junichi Mori (Director General of the Organization for the Promotion of International Relations), Hidetoshi Kotera (Director of the President's Office), Kunio Takeyasu (Director of a Subcommittee of the International Relations Committee and Professor at the Graduate School of Biostudies) and Ainslie Kerr (Specialist Administrative Staff Member of the International Relations Division). The Meeting drew approximately 100 participants, including presidents of 31 universities of the APRU members.
At the APRU Presidents Open Forum, President Matsumoto delivered a lecture with the title: "Working toward Solutions that Ensure the 'Survivability' of Human on the Planet Earth - Thinking beyond 'Sustainability'," emphasizing the necessity of "survivability" beyond "sustainability."
At the APRU Business Meeting, President Matsumoto was selected as the Japanese member of the APRU Steering Committee. Great expectations are placed on him to play an active role as a member of the Committee in examining APRU future directions. Also, the APRU World Institute's Governing Board Meeting was held. President Matsumoto attended the latter as a member of the Governing Board.
Moreover, President Matsumoto attended a reunion party held by Rakuyukai-San Francisco, a Kyoto University alumni organization, and promoted interactions with alumni who play active roles in San Francisco and other societies.
