Funai Tetsuro Auditorium & Funai Center

Outline

The Funai Tetsuro Auditorium and Funai Center were established through a donation from Funai Tetsuro, president and CEO of Funai Electric Co. Ltd. Mr. Funai made the donation through a desire to contribute to Kyoto University's education and research activities, and to the development of Japan's academic research and the competitiveness of Japanese industries.

The new facilities were conceived as the symbolic center of Katsura Campus, representing a fusion of science and technology, local community and nature.

The Funai Tetsuro Auditorium and Funai Center will make the accumulated intellectual assets and traditions of Kyoto University available to society and facilitate the advancement of cuttingedge research. As a symbol of Kyoto University's accessibility and openness to society, they will serve as a center for the promotion of education, research, industry-academia cooperation and local community collaboration.

FUNAI TETSURO AUDITORIUM

The Funai Tetsuro Auditorium contains a 500-capacity elliptical hall, the interior of which is styled in bamboo work. The hall is equipped to host a variety of exhibitions and events, such as conferences and international symposia.

FUNAI CENTER

The Funai Center includes the Katsura Salon, a lounge-style function room which commands an impressive view over Kyoto City. Other facilities within the center include science laboratories designed for industry-academia exchange, and a “junior laboratory,” designed to give young children the opportunity to experience science first-hand. The center also contains athletic training and sports facilities for staff members and students.
