Opening an Account

By opening an account at a post office or a bank, students will be able to deposit and transfer money, arrange automatic withdrawal for public utilities and credit card payments, etc.

To Open a Bank / Postal Saving Account

Required Documents (may vary by banks/ post offices)

  1. Passport
  2. National Health Insurance Card or, Alien Registration Card
  3. Personal seal (inkan)
    *Not needed for postal account. Some banks accept signature as a substitute for ‘inkan’
  4. Cash for deposit

* Students who have just arrived and have not received their Alien Registration Card yet, may need the certificate “Toroku Genpyo Kisai Jiko Shomeisho” which certifies the content of Alien Registration Card, available at the City /Ward Office.
