Intensive Japanese Language Course for Monbukagakusho Scholarship Students
The following information is about an intensive Japanese language course Kyoto University offers for Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship students.

1. Course Outline
This is an intensive six-month Japanese language course designed for Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship students planning to carry out graduate level research at national or city universities in the Kyoto or Shiga regions. Students not only learn functional Japanese essential for everyday life, but also the fundamentals of Japanese language necessary for their specialized research fields. Admission is limited to 30 students and takes place in April and October.
2. Course Framework
Students take a placement test at the beginning of the semester. Each course comprises 11-14 classes per week and runs 16 weeks.

| Elementary II Class
| This class is best suited for those who have completed Minna no Nihongo I or the equivalent. | Intermediate I Class
| This class is for those who have been learning Japanese for more than one year or who have learnt basic Japanese grammar structures. Each class in this course will focus on a particular skill: listening, speaking, reading and writing. * For students who have Intermediate III Class or higher proficiency, we will arrange your course schedule individually.
3. Notes
a. Japanese language lessons at the center are given at your supervisor's request and are regarded as one of the prerequisites for entering a graduate school.
b. Attendance should be more than 80%. If you come to class more than twenty minutes late, your attendance will not be counted.
c. For Elementary I and II classes, achievement tests will be held. These aim not to check your achievement for evaluation, but to find out to what extent you understand and have retained the lessons.
d. All spring semester students have to take a final test and make a speech in August. (Autumn semester students do the same in February.)

4. Course Requirements and Issue of a Certificate
When students complete the course, a completion certificate will be issued. Final grades are based on attendance, class participation, assignments, in-class tests, final test, speech, etc.
