Student Lounge "KI-ZU-NA" opened in the Spring of 2002. The name "KI-ZU-NA" means "bonds" in Japanese. The lounge was named as such because it is meant to be a space for students to create bounds of friendship beyond borders. At "KI-ZU-NA", international and Japanese students, university staff, professors, researchers etc., can get together to join or organize cross-cultural activities. "KI-ZU-NA" has a salon where students can chat and relax. There is also a reading room (lending library), which provides books for Japanese language learning, books in English and so on. The reading room is equippied with two computers for internet access.
Also, "KI-ZU-NA" promotes cultural exchange through monthly events in which students can participate. Please come by to visit us!

"KI-ZU-NA" office hours:

  • Reading Room and Audio Room: Monday - Friday 10:00 - 17:30 (Excluding holidays)
    *No smoking, drinking or eating.
  • Salon: Monday - Friday 9:00 - 18:00 (Excluding holidays)
    *No smoking.
    Salon opening hours will change from January 4th, 2012

Reading Room

In the reading room, there are books about Japan, Japanese culture and for Japanese Language learning. Those who are not able to attend the Japanese language classes, or those who wish to put in extra hours of study,  can borrow Japanese language materiasl such as books, CDs and videos.
Please apply for  "KI-ZU-NA" borrowing card beforehand in order to use the borrowing service.
3 items can be borrowed for the period of two weeks.
There are also newspapers in Japanese and in English, magazines such as "TIME", as well as free papers.

Internet Access
There are two PCs for internet access, which are available at the Reading Room during open hours.

Salon

Salon

In the salon, students can sit down and chat in a comfortable space. You can use this space for chatting, relaxing, having lunch or group work. Posted on the information board in this salon, is the latest information about events on-campus and off-campus, seminars, exhibitions and etc. Notices are updated regularly, so don't miss them!

Every Thursday evening, an "International Afternoon Tea Party" is held by a circle which promotes international exchange. Feel free to join the party at any time and enjoy making friends from different parts of the world!

Audio Room

The audio room is equipped with a CD a player, a DVD player and a video cassette recorder. Students can enjoy their favorite music and movies here. Video tapes and DVDs to study Japanese language and Japanese culture are also available.

Staff of "KI-ZU-NA"

At "KI-ZU-NA", one university staff member and five graduate students are available to provide assistance to students. Please ask the staff for advice. We also welcome suggestions about making services better at "KI-ZU-NA".
