Kyoteiko Hiroba, Partner Universities Square: Lunchtime Events for Inbound/Outbound Exchange Students (5-7 July 2016)

Published on

On 5-7 July, the International Education and Student Mobility Division, together with the International Academic Research and Resource Center for Language Education, Institute for Liberal and Arts and Science (ILAS), held events entitled Kyoteiko Hiroba , or "Partner Universities Square", at the ILAS Building.

This new series promotes interaction among students going to and from Kyoto University's exchange-partner institutions. It is also a chance for those interested in studying abroad to learn about available opportunities, and an occasion to help inbound exchange students develop deeper connections with Kyoto University and Japan.

The three days were organized according to three regions: Asia/Oceania/Middle East Day, Europe Day, and Americas/UK/Ireland Day. Nine student volunteers from each group delivered presentations, either in English or in Japanese, on their home universities and countries; the Asia/Oceania/Middle East Day featuring the University of Auckland (New Zealand), Nanjing University (China), and Tel-Aviv University (Israel), the Europe Day including Sciences Po (France) and Heidelberg University Kyoto Office (Germany), and the final day focusing on the University of Washington (USA), the University of Hawaii at Manoa (USA), and McGill University (Canada).

Presentations each day were followed by informal discussion, where attendees enjoyed international networking over lunch.

Over the three days, the event attracted a total of 168 students -- including 27 from 14 countries outside Japan -- indicating an increased interest among KU students in studying abroad.

A second Kyoteiko Hiroba is scheduled for the second semester.
