To students affected by the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake

The following assistance is available to students affected by the series of earthquakes that occurred in Kumamoto Prefecture beginning 14 April 2016.

1. Second-semester tuition exemption

Those unable to pay the 2016-2017 second-semester tuition due to earthquake damage may be eligible for a full or partial exemption, depending on the extent of the damage sustained.

How to apply

Applications will be accepted beginning September 2016. Details will be posted on this website as they become available.

2. Financial assistance from the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)

Those whose places of residence have been completely or partially destroyed in the Kumamoto earthquakes, resulting in a suspension of their studies, may be eligible for financial assistance from the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO).

Application deadline

Up to three months from the month after the damage in question occurred.
