Kyoto University's Leading Graduate School Programs provide an interdisciplinary five-year doctoral education program to equip students with broad-based knowledge, wide perspective, and practical expertise needed to address global challenges.

There are currently five such programs available at Kyoto University, which are the Graduate School of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Survivability (Shishu-Kan), the Inter-Graduate School Program for Sustainable Development and Survival Societies, the Training Program of Leaders for Integrated Medical System for Fruitful Health-Longevity Society, the Collaborative Graduate Program in Design, and the Leading Graduate Program in Primatology and Wildlife Science.

In order to give prospective students an outlook into what they can expect from each of these programs, Kyoto University hosted an LGSP joint open campus on 2 July at its Higashi Ichijokan building. A large number of visitors, including students as well as local residents, visited the venue to attend the plethora of activities, including a panel exhibition, presentations, sample lectures, student testimonials, and consultation services.

Survey results indicated a high level of satisfaction, with the largest number of respondents saying that the open campus had been "fun". While many of the visitors also appeared to find the event informative, some voiced a preference for content that is more specifically geared to undergraduate students. The organizers said they intend to incorporate this and other feedback into future activities to better meet the needs of visitors.
