Alumni Regulations
Name
【Article 1】
The name of this alumni association shall be Kyoto University Alumni.
Purpose
【Article 2】
The purpose of this alumni association is to promote exchange and friendship among members, as well as to contribute to the further development of Kyoto University.
Programs
【Article 3】
- To achieve the purposes stated above, this alumni association shall undertake the following programs:
- (1)Programs relating to providing/disseminating information regarding the current status of education and research activities of Kyoto University and other programs that will contribute to promotion of mutual exchange and friendship between Kyoto University and the members, as well as among the members
- (2)Programs that are necessary for planning, designing, implementing etc. of the programs targeting Kyoto University and the alumni members
- (3)Other programs that are consistent with the purpose of this alumni association
Membership
【Article 4】
- Members of this alumni association shall be organizations or individuals that agree to the purpose of this alumni association and are one of the following:
- (1)Alumni association of a Kyoto University department, faculty etc., or member thereof
- (2)Regional alumni association (including those overseas) or member thereof (should be a graduate of a Kyoto University undergraduate or graduate course)
- (3)Alumni association of an official campus activity club/circle or member thereof (should be a graduate of a Kyoto University undergraduate or graduate course)
- (4)Graduate of a Kyoto University undergraduate or graduate course who does not belong to any alumni association as specified above but wishes to enter this alumni association
- (5)Person who is or was a director, faculty member etc. of Kyoto University and wishes to join this alumni association
- (6)Other person who has been admitted by the Chairman
Executive officers
【Article 5】
- This alumni association shall have the following officers:
- (1)Chairman
- (2)Vice Chairmen: several
- (3)Trustees: 50 or fewer
- (4)Secretary General: 1
- (5)Secretaries: 30 or fewer
- (6)Auditors: several
- In addition to the above, other officers, such as advisors and honorary chairman, may be appointed as necessary.
Appointment of executive officers
【Article 6】
- The President of Kyoto University shall be appointed Chairman.
- Vice Chairman and Auditors shall be appointed by the Chairman from among the alumni members.
- The following persons shall be appointed Trustees.
- (1)Graduate school/faculty Deans
- (2)Persons recommended by a graduate school/faculty alumni association or regional alumni association, then appointed at a general meeting of the executive officers
- (3)Other persons who have been selected at a general meeting of the executive officers
- The Executive Director in charge of Kyoto University Alumni shall be appointed Secretary General.
- Secretaries shall be individuals who:
- (1)Have been recommended by a graduate school/faculty alumni association and appointed by the Chairman
- (2)Have been appointed by the Chairm
Duties of executive officers
【Article 7】
- The Chairman shall represent the alumni association and manage the overall affairs of the association.
- The Vice Chairman shall assist the Chairman and, when necessary, act on behalf of the Chairman.
- Trustees shall discuss important matters relating to the programs of this alumni association.
- The Secretary General shall supervise alumni association operations and control the secretariat.
- Secretaries shall, in cooperation with the secretariat, plan/promote the programs of the alumni association, and shall coordinate communication with other alumni associations.
- Auditors shall audit the operations of the alumni association and report audit results at the general meetings of the executive officers.
Term of office
【Article 8】
The term of office of an executive officer shall be 2 years, but reappointment is not proscribed. The term of an officer appointed to fill a vacancy shall comprise the remainder of the previous office holder’s term.
Meetings
【Article 9】
This alumni association shall hold meetings of executive officers and meetings of Secretaries.
General meeting of executive officers
【Article 10】
- A general meeting of executive officers shall consist of the Chairman, Vice Chairmen, Trustees, Secretary General and Secretaries.
- A general meeting of executive officers shall discuss important matters relating to the operations of this alumni association and the implementation of its programs.
- The Chairman shall call a general meeting of executive officers at least once a year and shall chair such meetings.
- A general meeting of executive officers may not discuss or adopt resolutions unless a majority of the executive officers specified in Section 1 above is present.
- General meetings of executive officers shall carry resolutions by majority vote of those present. Tie votes shall be decided by the vote of the Chairman.
General meeting of Secretaries
【Article 11】
- The general meeting of Secretaries shall consist of the Secretary General and Secretaries.
- The general meeting of Secretaries shall discuss the following matters:
- (1)Matters relating to member enrolment/withdrawal
- (2)Matters necessary for submission of proposals to the general meeting of executive officers
- (4)Matters relating to planning, designing, implementing etc. of alumni association programs
- The Secretary General shall call and preside over meetings of secretaries.
- A general meeting of Secretaries may not discuss or adopt a resolution unless a majority of the Secretaries is present.
- General meetings of Secretaries shall carry resolutions by a majority vote of those present. Tie votes shall be decided by the vote of the Chairman
Secretariat
【Article 12】
- This alumni association shall have a secretariat.
- The Secretariat shall be located in Kyoto University.
Revision of regulations
【Article 13】
These regulations may be revised at a general meeting of executive officers by a majority vote of the executive officers specified in Article 10, Section 1 present.
Miscellaneous provisions
【Article 14】
Any matter not specified herein that is necessary for operation of this alumni association or for the implementation of its programs shall be discussed at a general meeting of executive officers and decided upon by the Chairman.
supplementary provisions
- These regulations shall take effect on November 3, 2006.
- Notwithstanding the provisions of Article 6, the executive officers at the time of the alumni association’s founding shall comprise the individuals listed in the Appendix.

These regulations shall take effect from August 1, 2008 and shall be applicable from April 1, 2008.
