Second Meeting of the Tokyo-Area Alumni Network Team (February 20, 2014)

The second meeting of the Tokyo-Area Alumni Network Team was held at Gakushikaikan (Tokyo) with the attendance of fifteen members from fourteen alumni branches and four university staff members, including Executive Vice-President Hidetoshi Kotera.

The alumni network team for the Tokyo (Kanto) area was established on January 19, 2012 in order to promote friendship and information exchange among faculty and graduate school alumni in Tokyo and the Kanto area as well as to contribute to the development of Kyoto University and assist in its social contribution efforts.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Michiya Otaka (1972 graduate from the Faculty of Medicine) from Shirankai (Faculty of Medicine), which serves as the representative secretarial office of the network team. After participants introduced themselves, they discussed the main agenda for the day--namely, the articles of association of the Tokyo-Area Alumni Network Team. After some exchange of opinions, the proposed articles of association were approved.

Under the articles of association, the network team was officially named the "Tokyo-Area Kyoto University Alumni Network Team ." The meeting also elected Mr. Otaka from Shirankai (Faculty of Medicine) as chair; Mr. Takashi Futaki from Shirankai (1965 graduate, Faculty of Medicine) as deputy chair; and, as secretaries, Mr. Teru Uno (1966 graduate, Faculty of Economics) from the Faculty of Economics Alumni, Mr. Ichiro Osawa (1980 graduate, Faculty of Engineering) from the Kyoto University Alumni Association of Civil Engineering Graduates, Mr. Masahiro Kumazawa (1968 graduate, Faculty of Engineering) and Mr. Koji Nose (1991 graduate, Faculty of Engineering) from the Kyoto University Alumni Association of Mechanical Engineering Graduates (Keikikai), and Mr. Masashi Tokai (1982 graduate, Faculty of Agriculture) from Kanto Ryokuyokai (alumni from the Faculty of Agriculture's marine sciences courses).

After the election, Mr. Otaka gave a speech upon taking office as chair of the network team. Executive Vice-President Kotera also gave a speech expressing his expectations for the functions of the network team in the future.

Following the meeting, a party was held in another room, which was opened with a speech by Chair Otaka and a toast proposed by Deputy Chair Futaki. During the party, members representing alumni branches talked about possible exchanges between their branches or the recent activities of their branches. Participants enjoyed conversations until the end of the party.
