On 2 November, the Japanese government announced that it will award the Medal with Purple Ribbon for fall 2017 to Professors Emeritus Toshitaka Tsuda, former director of the Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere (RISH), and Mitsuru Hashida, research administrative director and program-specific professor at the Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS), a part of Kyoto University's Institute for Advanced Study (KUIAS), together with 16 other individuals.
The Medal with Purple Ribbon biannually recognizes outstanding individual and group contributions to academic and artistic developments, improvements, and accomplishments.
An award ceremony will be held Tuesday 14 November.
