The June KIZUNA event is a Japanese traditional comic performance show and workshop, presented in English by Nankin tamasudare and rakugo artist Okidokitei Kanta.

Nankin tamasudare is a form of street entertainment, in which the performer transforms a specially designed sudare (bamboo screen) into various shapes while chanting an accompanying poem. Kanta's "miracle bamboo blind" show is very unique; it will take you on a trip around the world, as his sudare twists, folds, and extends to depict objects from numerous destinations. This trip is of course free of charge, and does not require a passport.

Rakugo is an art of comic storytelling that has been enchanting audiences for over 400 years. The kimono-clad performer recounts a tale while kneeling on a cushion, using voice inflections, gestures, and facial expressions to portray all the characters. They use only a fan and handkerchief as props to creatively represent a variety of objects.

In the upcoming event, participants will watch Kanta's performances, and then practice these arts themselves.
This will be a great opportunity to experience Japanese traditional performing arts and make new friends.
KIZUNA looks forward to your participation.
