Memorandum for Academic Cooperation and Exchange concluded with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (18 August 2014)

A memorandum for academic cooperation and exchange was concluded between Kyoto University and Universiti Brunei Darussalam at a signing ceremony held at Kyoto University's Clock Tower Centennial Hall.

President Hiroshi Matsumoto commenced the ceremony by welcoming the delegation from Universiti Brunei Darussalam, and expressing his hopes for an enhancement of research cooperation under the memorandum. Dato Dr. Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi, President & Vice Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam responded by expressing his own aspirations for a deepening of collaboration.

President Matsumoto and President & Vice Chancellor Zulkarnain Hanafi then proceeded to sign the agreement.

Universiti Brunei Darussalam is Brunei's oldest university. Through its involvement in international university consortia and other efforts, it is actively engaged in transnational collaborative research to address global environmental issues such as biodiversity and climate change. It has already concluded faculty-level cooperation agreements with Kyoto University's Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) and Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies (ASAFAS). The conclusion of the university-level memorandum for academic cooperation and exchange is anticipated to significantly advance collaboration between the two institutions, including joint research projects and the exchange of students and young researchers.
