From 28 through 30 July, Professor Shigeo Fujii and others from the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies (GSGES) attended the International Forum on Green Technology and Management 2015 (IFGTM 2015) at the Green Hotel in Hue City, Vietnam.

An annual academic conference focused on environmental engineering, IFGTM is organized by the Consortium for Green Technology Management and Research (CGTMR), which, as of June 2015, comprises 11 members, including Vietnam's highest-ranking universities and Taiwan's Chia Nan University of Pharmacy & Science (CNU).

This year's IFGTM, the fifth since the event was inaugurated in 2011, was attended by 150 experts from seven countries.

On Day 1, Professor Fujii, Dean of GSGES, delivered a plenary lecture entitled "Comparison of Water Use Practices in Several Asian Cities".

The Day 2 program featured a mini-workshop led by GSGES faculty members. This focused on the GSGES initiative "Formulation of the Cooperation Hub for Global Environmental Studies in the Indochina Region", which is being implemented as a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Core-to-Core Program. The session, which was preceded by opening remarks from Dean Fujii, consisted of three parts, each of which saw active participation from those in attendance.

Part I was devoted to presentations by representatives of Kyoto University and participating Indochinese institutions about their respective organizations and their international joint research projects. In Part II, Associate Professor Hirohide Kobayashi presented a proposal for the next Core-to-Core Program and, in Part III, Associate Professor Shuhei Tanaka shared a plan for a new research collaboration program and another for a double-degree program between Kyoto University and ASEAN-based institutions.

The workshop provided a valuable opportunity for discussion between representatives of Kyoto University and those of the Indochinese institutions that are concerned with the next phase of education and research collaboration among their organizations.
