Drill conducted on KU Hospital heliport (18 December 2015)

Published on

On 18 December, Kyoto University Hospital hosted a patient-transport drill involving the Hiei, one of the municipal firefighting and disaster relief helicopters in service, at the heliport located on the rooftop of its newly constructed South Ward.

Organized in cooperation with Kyoto City's fire department, the drill was carried out to ensure that the heliport -- designed for such purposes as disaster relief, emergency patient transportation, and delivery of transplant organs -- would function as intended.

Around 50 hospital and fire department officials participated in the drill, noting the helicopter landing route, the actions to be taken after the landing, and the procedures for carrying the patient into the building via a dedicated elevator.

The heliport is expected to make KU Hospital's advanced medical care available to even more communities when it opens in late January.
